Garden Library
The Garden Library is a specialist book collection created by the Eduard Petzold Foundation. Its aim is to collect, develop, and make available literature devoted to landscape architecture, garden art, and horticulture. It is being established as an educational and research resource for all those interested in the history, theory, and practice of landscape design.
The Garden Library is a long-term project carried out as part of the statutory activities of the Eduard Petzold Foundation. Its primary task is the systematic collection and provision of books and journals related to landscape architecture, horticulture, and the broadly understood history and theory of garden art. The library has a specialist character and is created primarily to support the Foundation’s educational, scientific, and outreach activities.
The library’s collection includes academic publications, specialist studies, and journals concerning design, history, and issues related to the protection and restoration of historic gardens. The book collection also encompasses numerous related disciplines, including architecture and urban planning, history and art history, geography, philosophy, and aesthetics, which allow for a multi-faceted perspective on issues connected with landscape formation and garden art.
The library’s holdings are systematically expanded through the purchase of new publications as well as donations provided by private individuals and institutions. As a result, the collection is continuously updated and enriched with new and valuable titles. A special place in the collection is occupied by foreign-language publications, which provide access to the latest research and international literature in the field.
At present, the collection comprises approximately 1200 volumes and is currently undergoing processing and cataloguing. Once the work related to establishing the Foundation’s permanent headquarters and opening the reading room is completed, the library will be made available to readers – researchers, students, designers, and all those interested in the history and culture of gardens.
The development of the Garden Library can be supported by donating books and journals related to its thematic scope, as well as through financial contributions intended for the purchase of new publications.
