XXXII International Landscape Conference
The International Landscape Conference in Kraków is the most significant scientific event in Poland dedicated to historic gardens. This year marks its 32nd edition, held under the theme: “Landscape variability – tradition and innovation”. The Eduard Petzold Foundation is honoured to act as a patron of the event and to co-organise a debate on the state of historic gardens.
The aim of the conference is to initiate discussion on changes occurring within landscapes, with a particular focus on heritage structures. An international panel of speakers will address issues relating to conservation, ecology, and planning – emphasising the balance between tradition and innovation, especially in light of the need to adapt heritage sites to new environmental conditions (climate change, new technologies, and the appropriateness of their application to heritage sites).
Key topics to be addressed during the XXXII international academic conference include:
• Cultural heritage,
• Ecology in design-based solutions,
• Garden art,
• Environmental systems implemented in various countries.
The conference will also serve as a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Landscape Architecture programme at the Cracow University of Technology, part of the so-called Kraków School of Landscape Architecture. This anniversary event offers a unique opportunity to bring together a wide range of individuals who have been actively involved in research, academic work, and education in the field over the years. It aims to showcase current research, analyse practical applications, exchange experiences, promote activities, and summarise 25 years of work by the Landscape Architecture team at the Cracow University of Technology, including its alumni. Attention will also be drawn to the impact of climate change and the potential for research in areas such as self-sufficiency and biodiversity across different scales.
During the conference, a panel discussion of the European Route of Historic Gardens (ERHG) titled “Tradition and Innovation in Historic Gardens” will take place. The discussion will be moderated by Jacek Kuśmierski, Secretary of the ERHG Scientific Committee and Vice Chairr of the Eduard Petzold Foundation, and Katarzyna Hodor, Professor at the Cracow University of Technology.
Panel participants:
- Łukasz Przybylak – President of the European Route of Historic Gardens
- Monika Drąg – Member of the Scientific Committee of the European Route of Historic Gardens
- Katarzyna Żak-Zatorska – Member of the Scientific Committee of the European Route of Historic Gardens; Museum in Nieborów and Arkadia, a branch of the National Museum in Warsaw
