The International Council of Museums ICOM Dubai 2025 Conference will be one of the most significant international events dedicated to the future of museology. Held under the theme “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities,” the gathering will bring together hundreds of experts and scholars from around the world to reflect on the evolving role of museums in a dynamic society. Among the participants will be Jacek Kuśmierski – Vice President of the Eduard Petzold Foundation, who will take part in events within the General Scientific Programme and the International Committees’ Day.

The world we live in is undergoing rapid social, technological, and cultural transformations. In this context, museums must redefine their mission and methods of operation while continuing to serve as guardians of cultural heritage and centers of education. ICOM Dubai 2025 will create a platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and the presentation of innovative solutions to help museums meet the challenges of the modern era. The scientific program of the conference will revolve around three key subthemes: intangible heritage, the power of youth, and new technologies — areas that most strongly shape the future of museums today.

In the era of global change, the protection of intangible heritage takes on particular significance, as it embodies the essence of cultural identity and diversity. Museums play a crucial role in preserving and transmitting it to future generations. The conference will discuss strategies for safeguarding heritage in the context of migration, social change, and environmental challenges, as well as ways to engage communities in processes of revitalization and reinterpretation of traditions.

The second pillar of the conference will focus on the role of young people in shaping the museums of the future. Participants will discuss how institutions can respond to the needs and ideas of the younger generation, creating spaces for co-creation and dialogue. ICOM Dubai 2025 emphasizes that youth are the driving force of change — not only as audiences but also as active co-creators of culture and leaders of innovation.

The third major theme of the conference will be new technologies, which are radically transforming management, education, and audience engagement. Museums are increasingly embracing digital solutions, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence to present cultural heritage in a modern and interactive way. Discussions in Dubai will address questions related to the ethical use of technology, the preservation of authentic experiences, and the creation of sustainable operational models for cultural institutions in the digital age.

Jacek Kuśmierski, Vice Chair of the Eduard Petzold Foundation, will participate in the General Scientific Programme as well as the International Committees’ Day, within the International Committee for Historic House Museums (DEMHIST) and International Committee for Architecture and Museum Techniques (ICAMT). The program includes study visits to prestigious institutions such as the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Additionally, participants will take part in the “Dubai’s Innovation and Future Trail” excursion, visiting Expo City, including Alif – The Mobility Pavilion, Vision Pavilion, Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion, and the Sustainability and Innovation Center – Part of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. Jacek Kuśmierski’s participation in the conference was made possible through the ICOM-Getty Participation Grant, supporting active involvement of museum professionals from around the world.
