For the first edition of the Lower Silesian Themes conference, the organizers plan to address topics related to Lower Silesia in a tourism and historical context, as well as discuss the region’s nature and cultural heritage—both in the present and with a view to the future. The event will feature 15-minute lectures, poster presentations, and activities at exhibition stands. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in discussions and meet other regional enthusiasts. The conference will take place at Sobieszów Palace – Nature and Education Center of the Karkonosze National Park in Jelenia Góra, at Cieplicka Street 196a.

The program includes 40 lectures divided into 9 thematic panels: Mountains, Heritage Rooms, Explorers, Cultural Heritage, Green, Tourism, Museum, Railway, and Historical. Additionally, there will be a Workshop Panel with three topics to choose from: The symbiosis of creators and publishers, Digitization of small and large heritage, Secrets of the Karkonosze Forest.

Jacek Kuśmierski, Vice President of the Eduard Petzold Foundation, will present a lecture titled: “The Green Capital of Lower Silesia: The Potential of Historic Gardens in Tourism Development and Cooperation on the Example of the Włodzica Valley.” This presentation aims to showcase how the natural and cultural heritage of Lower Silesia can become a key driver for tourism development and a platform for local and cross-border cooperation.

In the first part, Jacek Kuśmierski will outline the characteristics of Lower Silesia as a region with a unique garden heritage and one of the highest numbers of preserved parks. He will then focus on the planned Eduard Petzold European Center for Garden Art, being developed by the Foundation, and on projects that have already been implemented. He will also discuss the potential of the landscape complex of residences and gardens in the Włodzica Valley (covering the Nowa Ruda Municipality and Radków Municipality in Kłodzko County), emphasizing its role in creating an attractive tourism offer for domestic and international visitors.

The presentation will highlight how local cultural and natural heritage can serve as a foundation for building local and cross-border partnerships that promote sustainable development. Finally, the lecture will stress the importance of an integrated approach to the protection and promotion of garden heritage as a driving force for regional tourism. Jacek Kuśmierski’s presentation is directed towards regionalists, non-governmental organizations, the tourism industry, and local government representatives interested in implementing innovative promotion and cooperation strategies based on local natural and cultural values.
