25th Anniversary of Landscape Architecture at UPWr
On May 15, 2026, the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences (UPWr) will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Landscape Architecture program. This special event will provide an opportunity to reflect on a quarter-century of activity, revisit the program’s history, and look ahead to the future of this dynamically developing field. The program will include expert and alumni panel discussions, exhibitions, and meetings of the landscape architecture community – including a presentation by Jacek Kuśmierski dedicated to work on historic gardens.
For 25 years, the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences has been educating specialists in landscape architecture who are now successfully delivering projects in Poland and abroad, co-creating modern and sustainable living spaces. The program’s success is the result of the dedication of academic staff, the creativity of students, and close cooperation with public institutions and the private sector.
The anniversary celebrations will take place in the John Paul II Auditorium and will feature a full-day program of events. The ceremony will begin with an official welcome by the university authorities and invited guests, including representatives of public administration and institutions involved in landscape protection and design. The academic part of the program will include a professors’ panel presenting the history of the program’s establishment and its scientific and educational development. There will also be reflections on the role of landscape architecture in the modern world – from art and aesthetics to environmental and social issues.
An important element of the event will be the alumni panel, divided into two sessions. Presentations by practitioners and researchers will showcase diverse career paths – from design and academic work, through international activities, to specializations related to heritage conservation as well as human health and well-being. One of the highlights will be a presentation by Jacek Kuśmierski, Vice-Chair of the Eduard Petzold Foundation, titled “Shades of Green – Experiences from Working with Historic Gardens”.
Throughout the day, participants will also have the opportunity to visit exhibitions, including “Green Islands”, as well as explore accompanying initiatives such as an alumni plein-air event and a charity auction. The celebrations will conclude with the evening Landscape Architect’s Ball, held in the unique setting of Wrocław Zoo – offering an excellent opportunity for networking and shared celebration.
